Please join us for the first Luncheon Speaker Series of 2020. The MHSM is honored to welcome guest speaker, Dr. Sarandis Papadopoulos, Secretariat Historian for the Department of the Navy, who will discuss the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack on the Pentagon.
Dr. Sarandis (“Randy”) Papadopoulos:
B.A. University of Toronto, M.A. University of Alabama, Ph.D. George Washington University (GWU) where his dissertation was entitled “Feeding the Sharks: The Logistics of Submarine Warfare, 1935-1945,” comparing the German and U.S. Navies.
Dr. Papadoploloushas been a Lecturer in History at GWU, the University of Maryland, College Park and Norwich University, and is currently the Secretariat Historian for the Department of the Navy. He is the author of many published articles, including those in You Cannot Surge Trust: Combined Naval Operations of the Royal Australian Navy, Canadian Navy, Royal Navy and United States Navy, 1991-2003(Washington, 2013).
Dr. Papadopoulos has also served as principal co-author of the book Pentagon 9/11(Washington, 2007), published under the auspices of the Historian, Office of the Secretary of Defense. A Society for Military History Trustee, since 2015 he has served as the President of the U.S. Commission on Military History and helps organize the Military Classics Seminar, a monthly program of the Commission. Papadopoulos is also a recipient of the U.S. Department of the Navy Distinguished and Superior Civilian Service Awards.
